HOW does Vinegar Remove Rust?
This video explores and explains the chemical reaction between acetic acid and rust, otherwise known as Ferric Oxide or Iron(III) Oxide.
In the case of acetic acid and metallic iron, the reaction is 2 CH3COOH + Fe = Fe(CH3C00) + H2.
In the case of acetic acid and Ferric Oxide, the reaction is 6 CH3COOH + Fe2O3 = 2 Fe(CH3C00)3 + 3 H2O.
