Rough surf, strong winds and heavy rain hit Cairns as Cyclone Jasper approaches landfall in far north Queensland. A tropical cyclone was building strength as it rolled towards northeastern Australia, with authorities warning "life-threatening" floods could swamp coastal regions for days.
