Before Diego Pavia was New Mexico State’s starting quarterback, he was a state champion wrestler in New Mexico.

And though Pavia is a few years removed from the wrestling mat, the suplex move Pavia put on Auburn defensive back Nehemiah Pritchett in the first quarter of Saturday’s game at Jordan-Hare Stadium proved he hasn’t forgotten all his moves.

Pritchett intercepted Pavia and was racing down the Auburn sideline when the Tigers’ defensive back found himself wrapped up by Pavia, who flipped him and threw into the turf of Pat Dye Field.

Pavia’s body slam resulted in a brief skirmish near the Auburn sideline and a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty.

Because the Tigers’ defense jumped offsides before the play could get underway, Pritchett’s interception was erased. But with Pavia’s unsportsmanlike penalty offsetting the offsides, the Aggies moved 10 yards backwards.
