Is it time to yap? I might aswell make it a big one since it's the last time I'll ever be doing this: Youtube gives me 5000 characters for the description so might aswell.
Around early 3.x little old hkanty (even if that name hadn't been created yet) wanted to know how good International was with C0 kazuha, because he liked the team, so he looked around and found this tiny channel called Nashi, you might have heard of it, and there he found out what speedruns are, and he fell in love with the team. But he wasn't determined enough to get childe on his 3.2 banner, but after getting Aqua from 3.5 homa/aqua, he decided he definitely wanted him in 4.0!
So he got him. And day 1 was already out there speedrunning. First a 79s run then a 72s later that day. In 1 single day I had matched Nashi's fastest run by that time. Then a 63s a week later or so, matching Lucas' run at that time. Then I just didn't bother to do a better run, even if I could have very well gotten 57s.
In comes 4.1, I had high expectations and my day 1 run had gotten a lot of views! Then I left mid-run while getting a potentially world record run, and got demotivated so I stopped playing. Then I cooked the 63s run just because I could. I didn't enjoy it, but it was my favourite abyss looking back. It was just unfortunate that stuff happened. This was the first time I kind of felt like stopping this, but I kept going hoping for 4.2.
In 4.2 I made an amazing day 1 run, that got over 20k views! That was crazy!! Why the hell were so many people watching me!? So of course I wanted to improve it! ... But I didn't because I got mad at 12-1 and 12-2 RNG. Then I finally got a 29s 12-1... it was 1s off Lucas time but still, incredible! Then I didn't have energy on 12.2. I wanted to quit again. But I didn't, and made the 98s run. Not happy with it, it's bad, but it's fine. Surely in 4.3, right? This is when I first started messing with c2 kaz too on other accs.
4.3 was fun. Then for some reason my ping spiked to 300 the day I had 815. Guess what I wanted to do? Give up again. But I found out cloudflare dns fixes it. So back to running. I got incredibly lucky and got that 70s run. Not world record as it got sniped by a 68 made by koshito, but still very proud!
4.4 wasn't fun, I was gapped by freedom sworn and couldn't apply the strats properly. In the video here I cheesed it by using 0% er homa. But it was an easy abyss, also my 2 cost run was insane here. Anyway this is when I started giving up on C2 kaz in favor of freedom sworn. Which is the choice I made later.
4.5 wasn't fun. First 2 blessings I had to wait for Freedom sworn banner, then on 3rd... 0 cards... when I had 815 I couldn't play much... but I made a run with terrible cards, somewhat spliced somewhat continuous, just because I wanted to. I was really demotivated with this game by this point, but it was fine I still kept going.
4.6 wasn't fun. I tried making a day 1 run that never ended up getting posted because I rage quit on 12-3. This was the first time I tried quitting for real. But then I checked cards by pure chance and there it was... 815... So... I made the run... it is the world record (tied with another run that came later). So nice, right?
Only the first blessing was good, so I had two full blessings of vacation from Genshin. This is when I realized something. I was having more fun not playing it. One day, I joined to do my dailies, to do the event, and I just... ALT+F4'd in the middle of it. And I tried an experiment: what if I didn't play the next day? What if... I just skipped it?
So I skipped that day. It was the singular first time ever since starting to play genshin (ver. 1.6) that I skipped a day. At this point I knew it was over, I didn't care anymore.
Ever since that day I have not touched Genshin, and don't even have it installed on my current PC.
I decided to tell you my entire experience with speedrunning instead of telling you the reasons I quit, because it's the best way to explain it: by explaining just what I've been through. The main culprits are the abyss cards system and daily grind.
There is sooo much more I wish I could have said, but you know those 5000 letters I was on about?
At one point this game was my life. I was a drug addict for the adrenaline of a good run, for the fame. But now I have realized just how stupid I was, and will never again make such mistakes in my life. I will never play another gacha game. And I will never play Genshin again.
