Day 153. 94km (80316kms 7yrs)

With a big day ahead and in need of coffee I was packed away and on the road before 07:00am. Arriving at the ferry just before the the barrier came down I had even less of a wait for my return crossing, arriving back to the main land still far earlier than I would ever usually have left my tent. Beside the ferry port I got a disappointing coffee with a good view, so promised myself another, hopefully better, along the way.

Following the large bay around in the morning I travelled south west, in the afternoon towards the north west and with incredible good fortune the wind changed following my curve through the day. In Mareth a cafe showed coverage of the upcoming England Spain game I was heading to Gabes to see and I allowed myself to get a little excited as the played 3 lions..

At a row of wooden stands selling tourist crafts I enquired as to a brown liquid and was handed a terracotta cup of cold coconut water. In these temperatures it was easily the most refreshing thing imaginable, I took another, the man filled my bottle with cold water and then refused payment for any of it.

In Gabes I checked into a characterful dusty hotel. There’s a life-sized camel in the foyer and my room has a shower and sink in the bedroom 😆

I found a bar to watch the game and was immediately offered a drink. How friendly!  But then I spent the entire game being interrupted, tapped on the shoulder, badgered for a kiss.. I’d have rather sat in peace and paid for my own inexpensive drinks. You live and learn. And England lost.
