El Caminito del Rey or The King's Little Path is along the walls of El Chorro, a gorge in southern Spain near lora. In 1901, workers at Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls hydroelectric power plants needed a way to cross between the falls, transport materials, and inspect and maintain the channel. The walkway was completed in 1905, but it wasn't inaugurated until 1921, when King Alfonso XIII crossed it. Since then, it's been called The King's Pathway.

The one-meter-wide walkway rises 100 meters above the river below. Once, it was in a highly deteriorated state with many sections where the concrete top has collapsed. Large air gaps are bridged by narrow steel beams or other supports. Few original handrails remain, but a safety-wire runs the path. Restored in 2016, El Caminito del Rey is now a tourist attraction and adventure sport for many adrenalin seekers.

The Adventures Unlimited team was here recently as part of our Winter Camino tour. Here are our experiences.
