At the end of December 2023, four Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers were shot down by the Ukrainian army. People can't help but wonder whether this kind of fighter-bomber, which has been so hyped by the Russians, really has a future? Reminiscent of the fact that the U.S. Air Force has always wanted to retire the A-10 attack aircraft, it seems that the prospects for that attack aircraft are indeed not good.
The Su-34 was developed at the end of the Soviet Union to replace the aging Su-24 tactical bomber and the Su-25 attack aircraft for the purpose of performing tactical bombing and ground attack missions.
Although the Su-34 inherits the aerodynamic shape design of the Su-27 family, its cockpit adopts a side-by-side two-seat configuration, so the head becomes larger. In order to reduce the volume and weight, the head is designed to be flat. Hence the nickname Hell Duck.
