If you want to test like you practice, you have to practice like you test. In this video, Jen Schumacher, GMAT Ninja's performance psychologist who has worked with world-class athletes and business leaders, introduces two strategies that will help you learn how to close the gap between GMAT practice and GMAT test day.

The first strategy is to increase the level of pressure during practice. Think about your GMAT practice environment. Is it similar to the testing environment? Does your practice environment include a similar desk, chair, lighting, and noise levels? Does it offer the same level of access to comforts like food, water, and the restroom?

Once you have the right environment, you want to make sure you simulate the time pressure of GMAT test day. Keep a timer running and set limits to practice under pressure.

In addition, prepare to decrease pressure during test day. Meditation is one tool for decreasing the feeling of pressure leading up to your test day.

Finally, plan for distractions by identifying all of your distractors — both external and internal. Create a reset routine and use it every time you get distracted during your GMAT practice. Remember, you can't perform better on test day if you can't practice like it's test day. These tips will help you show up to the GMAT test feeling like you are just about to sit down for a relaxed, clear-headed practice exam at home.
