Potassium Absorption and excretion, called
Potassium Absorption and excretion, called external potassium balance must be equally matched up. Potassium gradient across the cell membrane (internal balance) helps to compensate when external balance is mismatched.
When internal balance is disrupted by transmembrane shift of K+ (due to medication, hormones, etc), the external potassium balance can sometimes compensate.
