In this video we try to understand the concept of the European Train Control System (ETCS) as part of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), especially get a grasp of the terms, equipment and procedures used as well as the institutions involved in developing it, while running an express train through Switzerland.

Full Regionalexpress (RE) service from Sursee to Luzern on the Stadler RABe 523 FLIRT train on Rivet Games' S-Bahn Zentralschweiz Luzern to Sursee DLC for Dovetail Games' Train Sim World 3, with tutorials covering the institutions, terms and concepts involved in creating and developing ETCS (11:18), the ETCS train-bourne equipment (23:59), the ETCS lineside equipment (29:16), the different channels of communication between the signaler/dispatcher and the driver in ETCS (36:40), ETCS Level 0 and Level STM/NTC (40:23), ETCS Level 1, Full Supervision and Limited Supervision (52:29), ETCS Level 2 (01:01:22), ETCS Level 3 and beyond (01:06:54) and discussing the implementation of the different levels and modes of operation in real life and the game (01:42:43).

Also included is a short addendum to the System L signalling tutorial, covering the treatment of black (dead) signals (01:42:43), as shown in the game when approaching Luzern.
