Zermatt in Switzerland has become
Zermatt in Switzerland has become the most fascinating paragliding site in the world after having the amazing oportunity of flying here on my 3800 km cycling and paragliding trip through Europe. This has been my longest hike and fly paragliding experience, breaking my own personal record. I have hiked for 4 hours and 30 minutes to an altitude of 3414 m. AMSL on top of Oberrothorn. The landscape is truly otherwordly!
In this episode I am starting my longest hike and fly paragliding trip in Zermatt at an altitude of 1600 m. AMSL and 4 continuous hours later I finally reached my destination - Oberrothorn take off site on top of the mountain at an altitude of 3414 m. AMSL. The hike has really impressed me with all its bio diversity and beauty. I have crossed forests, hills, bare flats and isolated places. The changes in air density, its crispiness and temperature drop were really noticeable once I crossed the 2500 meters mark.
After reaching the take off site, I tried to launch but the wind had other plans for me, so I had to pack up my glider and walk down to the next closest take off site which was 400 meters lower in altitude. Once I reached there, the wind was extremely strong but I still managed to take off after untangling a huge bundle of knots in my lines from the previous crappy packing job on top of the first launch site.
