The Boka Vanguard is the largest semi-submersible heavy-lift ship ever built. This drone video captures the Boka Vanguard transporting a massive offshore oil platform through the Port Aransas ship channel.
The Boka Vanguard can transport cargo weighing as much as 110,000 tons (220,000,000 pounds.) The ship partially submerges by flooding internal ballast tanks until only a tiny fraction of the vessel remains above the waterline. Then, the cargo is maneuvered into place directly above the ship, and the Boka Vanguard slowly rises, allowing the cargo to settle on the Boka Vanguard's deck.
