The case and Oyster bracelet feature a striking two-tone finish that utilizes 904L stainless steel and 18 karat yellow gold. A milled Oysterlock clasp offers the highly desirable 5mm Easylink extension link. This convenient feature allows the wearer to adjust the bracelet up to 5mm without the use of tools for a perfect fit throughout the day. The men’s Rolex ref. 116713 also boasts a Cerachrom bezel and was the first Rolex watch to offer this highly anticipated bezel variation. Crafted from ceramic made in-house by Rolex, the Cerachrom bezel is almost entirely scratch-resistant. Just like the sapphire crystal that often accompanies the case, it takes a significant amount of force to damage the surface of the Cerachrom bezel.
Its innovative design allowed the wearer to keep time like never before via a 24-hour rotatable bezel that was developed by Rolex as a means to help commercial pilots all over the world sync to military time. Decades later, Rolex released an upgraded version of their successful pilot’s watch called the GMT Master II in 1983. This newer addition to the GMT line carried with it a calibre 3085 automatic movement that was built to include an independent 24-hour hand and the ability to read a third-time zone on the dial.
