MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM (1984, Broadway)

Following the furore of the film version, here we have a look at the original Broadway incarnation of August Wilson's play. It was first staged in 1982 in Connecticut, and then transferred on Broadway at the Cort Theatre, opening on October 11, 1984. Its cast consisted of Theresa Merritt, Charles S Dutton, Joe Seneca, Leonard Jackson and Robert Judd, and ran for a little less than 300 performances.
