PADI Rescue Diver Exercise 7 - Unresponsive Diver at the Surface performed in a more Modern, Updated and Realistic way! The PADI Rescue Diver Exercise 7 can be a Life Saving skill for an unresponsive diver at the surface.

PADI Rescue Diver Exercise 7 - Unresponsive Diver at the Surface Chapters and Timestamps for easy navigation:

00:00 Approach panic diver and ask if they are ok
00:17 Establish positive buoyancy on the unresponsive diver
00:36 Remove scuba mask and regulator
00:54 Look, listen and feel for breathing
01:00 Call for help
01:09 Start rescue breathing while removing the scuba equipment
02:42 Give 2 rescue breaths in the end of the PADI Rescue Diver Exercise 7 skill

Make sure to give a breath around every 5 seconds during the PADI Rescue Exercise 7.

Some new changes for the PADI Rescue Diver Exercise 7 - Unresponsive Diver at the Surface:

1. Slow down!! Don't rush it as rushing just makes you do mistakes and you will get stuck. There is a great saying: "Slow is smooth an smooth is fast"

2. Look, listen and feel for breathing for a few seconds (4, 5 or 6 seconds) and don't count out loud as you won't do this in real life either. Counting for 10 seconds during the PADI Rescue Exercise 7 is still ok, but it takes a long time, you will know before that time if someone is breathing or not and you can use those extra seconds to start the rescue breaths. Look, listen and feel between 5 to 10 seconds.

3. Start with 2 breaths and then around every 5 seconds 1 more breath during the PADI Rescue Exercise 7. Remember around, it does not have to be super precise every 5 seconds as sometimes the situation asks for a bit more or less time. But if it really takes too long in between breaths then give 2 breath again and continue. You can do this not only real life but also during the PADI Rescue Exercise 7 skill performance.

This is the official PADI performance requirement from the PADI Instructor Manual:

PADI Rescue Exercise 7– Unresponsive Diver at the Surface

1. Make contact with and check for breathing on an unresponsive diver at the surface, demonstrating:

Calling for help while establishing buoyancy and turning the diver face up.

Removing the diver’s mask and regulator, opening airway and checking for breathing.

2. Demonstrate in water rescue breathing using the following methods:

Mouth-to-pocket mask
Mouth-to-mouth
Mouth-to-nose (optional)
Mouth-to-snorkel (optional)

(In this video we demonstrate the mouth to mouth technique).

3. While continuing effective rescue breathing, demonstrate equipment removal (victim and rescuer) while towing the diver toward an exit.
