SHOCKING CRAZY: Rat Attack Falcon Egg! Unbelievable Footage!

In a nest box designed for lesser kestrels (Falco naumanni), a pair recently laid an egg. Unlike some avian species, the female lesser kestrel begins incubation only after laying the second or third egg, occasionally leaving the initial egg unattended until incubation commences. Tragically, during one such night when the egg was left unguarded, a rat managed to enter the nest box and prey upon the vulnerable egg. Upon their return the following day, the kestrel pair discovered the egg's fate. The male inspected the broken egg, and it is hoped that they will lay again, ensuring this time to protect the egg from nocturnal predators. This incident underscores the importance of vigilance in safeguarding eggs during vulnerable stages of incubation.

These videos are meant to document the lives of wild falcons and other birds in order that we can learn more for both educational & research purposes and serve as an aid for the species conservation effort. We do not set up/ stage or intervene. All the videos in this stream are documenting wild lesser kestrels.
