What is the difference between
What is the difference between recycling and upcycling?
Most of us know that recycling is the process of breaking down and reusing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash. How is this different that upcycling you ask? I will explain it in this video with a few examples.
Essentially, contrary to recycling with upcycling, (also known as "creative reuse") the materials are not "broken down". Rather they are transformed or given a new shape and function. These materials are repurpused into a creation that is often of greater value than the original.
In my business Do Re Mi Bracelets etc. I believe that music doesn't belong in the trash. Therefore I take these broken musical instrument strings (guitar, violin, cello, piano, etc.) or pieces (drumsticks, reeds, etc.) and I give them a new life and purpose, thereby saving the memories of the music they once played. I upcycle them in to jewelry (bracelets, earrings, necklaces, etc.) or gifts (magnets, bookmarks, keychains, etc.).
