Suede and nubuck are both unusual types of leather that a lot of people confuse. Here's what you should know.
SUEDE
What you think of when you hear "leather" is made from the outside of the animal's skin. Suede is made from the *inside*, what you'd call the "underside." It's softer, more pliant, and less durable than regular, full grain leather.

NUBUCK
This is made from the outside of the animal's hide, but it's been sanded or buffed to give it a slight nap of protein fibers. So it's fuzzy, which is why it gets mistaken for suede. The upside is it's more durable than suede, but it's harder to clean and doesn't patina as well — old nubuck isn't great to look at.
