P susheela euphonious voice fetched her accolades and she has been conferred with five national awards and many state awards including Telugu for her beautiful songs. She is called as "Lata of the South", "Melody Queen", "Nightingale of the South, "Gana Kokila", "Gana Saraswathi". She has sung songs not only for South Indian films, but also for other languages like Bengali, Hindi, Tulu and even in Sinhalese.
She started singing at the age of nine and made her debut in films at 16 in 1951. What is unique about her is the influence she has been wielding over listeners for generations together. She was very close to SPB, both were good friends. Together, SP Balasubrahmanyam and Susheela sang hundreds of memorable duets in Telugu and other languages.
