Knitting tutorial: learn how to cast on using the German twisted cast-on. This is a great stretchy cast on for hats, mittens and socks.
As in the long-tail cast on, you will need to estimate the length of the tail before beginning. Wrap the yarn around your needle ten times. This will give you the length of tail needed for 10 sts. Double this amount for 20 sts, triple for 30, etc. Add 6" extra so that you have enough yarn left to weave in at the end.
