In August 2021, former Royal Marine Pen Farthing desperately tried to get the dogs his charity Nowzad had rescued and his staff out of Afghanistan. Supporters raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to charter a flight to evacuate - but Pen accused the Foreign Office of blocking the evacuation flight. Pen and his animals left Afghanistan on 28th August, two days before the final British evacuation flight. However, Pen’s ‘Operation Ark’ was accused of valuing pets over people, and leaving British passport holders at the mercy of the Taliban. After he faced a year long backlash, Pen joins us following a new Channel 4 documentary which aired last night.
