Ableism is defined as discrimination
Ableism is defined as discrimination and social prejudice against people with disabilities and/or people who are perceived to be disabled. This includes people who are living with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. The concept of ableism currently permeates many of our societal structures and systems, and needs to be better recognized in order to work at dismantling it. In this interview, we hear from Kathleen MacKinnon about what exactly ableism is, and how it shows up in the systems we operate within, as well as what can be done to help navigate and ultimately dismantle ableist systems.
