2024 Pontiac Sunfire Digital Render

Back in the 90s, front-wheel-drive and affordability went hand in hand with fun, today the Pontiac Sunfire render brings back the great compact coupe. Once there was an abundance of compact, relatively-affordable coupes that could offer you a little fun with less of cost involved than that of higher-level sports cars.

Often times these cars would come with front-wheel-drive, and sometimes with all-wheel-drive such as the Eagle Talon TSi AWD. There are other fun cars like the Toyota Sera, Nissan NX, Subaru SVX, Ford Probe, Mazda MX-3 and Toyota Celica, you get the idea – but also the Pontiac Sunfire. Pontiac’s Sunfire also came with front-wheel-drive and relatively-small engines, though there was a 2.4-liter DOHC I4, plus an optional bright yellow color to add a little more… well, fun.

You could define a sports car as any car with a focus on style, performance and fun, with a design and powertrain distinct from standard ‘economy’ production cars – the Sunfire isn’t a sports car, but it was in a very popular 90s compact coupe niche.

Nowadays, as retro things such as minidiscs come back into fashion thanks to Generation Z and the compact car is now a crossover, a 2024 Pontiac Sunfire would make a refreshing shakeup to the sporty-yet-affordable compact market. Here it is, courtesy of HotCars artist Rostislav Prokop.
