Dr. Marx: One major difference between a reverse shoulder replacement and an anatomic shoulder replacement is the recovery afterward. Following a reverse shoulder replacement, we actually are allowed to get you going a little bit sooner. Typically, I like folks to stay in a sling for two weeks just to let some of the swelling, dissipate some of that pain from surgery get better before we start sending you to physical therapy and range your motion around. But really, at that point, there aren't any serious major restrictions. And so typically, it's kind of on the order of three to four months that people are going back to all of their regular activities versus an anatomic shoulder replacement. I have to keep people in the sling a little bit longer because we have to go through a tendon in the front part of the shoulder that has to heal afterward. So we allow that to heal first by keeping you in a sling for six weeks and then starting some range of motion exercises after that. #shoulderpain #jointpain #sportsinjuryrecovery Click here to learn more about Dr. Marx: https://bit.ly/SAOS-Marx We are patient-focused orthopedic specialists dedicated to providing our local community in San Antonio, Texas, with the highest quality orthopedic services.
