Welcome Back!!

This time out, we head to Grotton in Greater Manchester to explore the disused Lydgate Railway Tunnel.

The tunnel is named after the village that it was constructed beneath and is 1332 yards long, and at its deepest point is over 200 feet beneath the Pennines!

Lydgate Tunnel was constructed by the LNWR on its route between Oldham and Greenfield (AKA the Delph Donkey Line) and first saw traffic on July 4th 1856

Passenger services through Lydgate Tunnel ended in April 1955, but freight traffic continued to use the route until its eventual closure on 13th April 1964.

This is by far one of the best tunnels I have ever explored with plenty to see along the way so....

OK Explorers

Lets get Exploring!

Big Loves
