Mary and Joseph's flight to Egypt reflects an experience of both the early Church and the Church throughout history - the reality of Persecutions.
Just as the Holy Family faced persecution and danger because of Jesus, so too has the Church faced danger, hatred and persecution because of Jesus. Some have sacrificed their lives. Others are forced to flee as refugees and exiles.
However, through it all, the Holy Family gives example of holding onto the object of their faith despite, and in the midst of such struggles and tragedy.
