Today, we are going to do a full swing breakdown on MLB player Fernando Tatis Jr.  In this video, we are going to thoroughly breakdown the swing of one of the best young players in today's game - Fernando "El Nino" Tatis Jr.

and if you watch until the end, Im going to provide you some drills, as bonuses, that i would do to get similar feels and mechanics. these drills will not only help you to get the mechanics and feels but also, help you to stand out, be more consistent, and give you insane amounts of confidence.

Hi, I'm former mlb player jermaine curtis and I'm very excited to breakdown this video with you. with that being said, lets get right into it.

ok, so the 1st thing I want you to see is his confidence walking to plate.

See hitting is mental which means if you do not believe you are the man, and or going to crush the pitcher, you will definitely not crush him. So the key is that you want to walk with confidence to the plate.

...because if you don't think you're great before you step to the plate, then its too late. there's no way you're going to rake, you might as well go to the plate and just take... because you're going to be ate like a birthday cake.

you see...you look at any great hitter, they had a presence even before they stepped into the batters box. and that's what you need to be successful in this game...belief in yourself.

So the next thing I want you to see is how far away he is away from the plate.

We will get more into that later but as of now, he has a bit of distance because for 1, it's more comfortable a little more off the plate.

this also allows him to get extension and stay closed more consistently. This is how he has been able to stand out this year because he is as comfortable at the plate, as Al bundy on his couch.

The next thing I want you to see, as he is in his batters stance, is his base.

He is 50/50 in his weight distribution in his legs. possibly could be 60/40. either way, he looks athletic and this allows him to be so consistent.

The reason why is because there is not much movement as he strides. and allows him to easily become balanced. This creates a simple swing that he can reproduce over and over.

Most young hitters end up being 70/30, or 30/70, with their weight distribution and this causes them to jump out their legs, lose power, and most importantly, become inconsistent.

The next thing I want you to see is his backwards gather.

Its not aggressive at all. Since he is fairly balanced in his weight distribution and comfortable in the box, due to how far away he is from the plate, he doesn't have much backwards gather and this creates an easy rhythm.

This also allows him to consistently be on time to attack the baseball, and creates a strong base.

The next thing I want you to see is how he loads his back hip and backside.

This is the beginning of creating that strong base Barry Bonds talks about.

for more about that Base, you will see a link right here that you can click on after the video and I will also leave a link in the description where I break down Barry's Bonds swing and provide some super game changing tips that he has shared with me.

so back to the loaded back hip

for most young hitters. they struggle with that loaded back knee, quad, and hip. The knee looks unstable and leaks as they prepare their swing.

as you can see, Fernando Tatis Jr. looks very stable and when you have a loaded back hip/backside that is stable, you should see a crease in the pants as a player is about to hit.

The next thing I want you to see is his low to mid leg kick. I like a leg kick because it  can generate power and more specifically, it can get things going.

I also like the low to mid leg kick because its simple to repeat. if you have seen my previous breakdowns, you will notice that the best hitters have a swing that they reproduce to make hard contact and that's what you should aspire to create with your swing.

I think high leg kicks look awesome too but the downside it is very hard to repeat and maintain. however, if you can be consistent with a super high leg kick the more power to you.

so the next thing I want you to see is the towel rinse. Hall of famer Edgar Martinez told me about the Towel rinse when we were chatting a few years ago.

The towel rinse lets you get in the slot and on plane without opening up. It's how great hitters work inside their body instead of around their body.

the next thing i want you to see is how keeps his hands tight inside his body when swinging. when you are swinging, you want to be efficient and this means direct to the ball.

Thank you,
Jermaine Curtis
