In addition to continual written and manipulative exams throughout the academy, Stockton and Lodi fire recruits must face specific evaluation dills. Live Fire Drills, The Basement Burn, The Monster Drill, and Night Drills have historically been evaluation tools for the academy cadre to determine if the recruits are ready to graduate to line firefighting. 2015 Night Drills occurred on December 14th, and lasted several hours. On duty crews included Engine 2, Engine 9, Truck 2, and Battalion 1. Counting DOT personnel, evaluators almost outnumbered recruits 2 to 1. Recruits were required to perform as many multicompany drills as possible in 3 hours, requiring them to drill and restore equipment near continuously. These drills allow them to demonstrate their ability to get the job done despite physical exhaustion. Recruits were evaluated on teamwork, motivation, hustle, and fundamental hosemanship skills. This video is a culmination of the nights drills, and parts are left unedited in order to show the recruits ability to work through physical exhaustion.
