How to Adjust the Pressure on a Power Washer

In this video, we'll show you the correct way to adjust the pressure on a power washer. First, it's important to note that you should never adjust your pressure using the unloader. The unloader is designed to put water into bypass when your trigger is disengaged. Adjusting the unloader will create wear and tear on your unloader, your pressure washer, and potentially cause injury.

To properly adjust the pressure on your machine, you need to know the machine's pressure (PSI) and flow (GPM) ratings. Then use your PowerWash.com catalog or refer to our website to review a nozzle chart.

Nozzle Chart - https://www.powerwash.com/nozzle-chart

Using the nozzle chart, find the correct PSI and GPM for your machine, and it will tell you your nozzle size. If you want to drop your pressure to a lower PSI, choose the pressure rating you want to use, follow down to the correct GPM (which should stay the same), and you will find your correct nozzle size.

Keep in mind that the pressure level you want depends on the type of surface you are cleaning. Your nozzle helps in adjusting the water pressure. The smaller the nozzle angle, the higher the pressure. Nozzles with larger orifices produce lower pressure. Smaller orifices are higher pressure tips.

Test the water pressure on a small area before attempting to clean the surface. Jetting water on a less durable surface with too much force could damage the surface beyond repair. Adjust the pressure washer according to the nature of the surface you want to clean.

The next best option is to adjust the nozzle angle and control the spray pattern. Hold the nozzle at a distance in order to uniformly spray water on the surface. Start operating the nozzle at a wider angle; later on, narrow the angle to obtain the maximum pressure. While you adjust the nozzle, you should also regulate the speed of the engine.

The main parts of the pressure washer include the motor, hose, hose reel, nozzle, detergent injector, unloader, downward, valves, and pressure washer gun. The motor is the most important part of the pressure washer pump. It connects to the power supply to run the machine. The motor controls the pressure of the machine.

Detergent injector helps in evenly mixing detergent with water. The unloader removes the pressure that builds up in the machine. The pressure washer gun connects to the hose and fires bursts of water onto the surface.
