This video demonstrates safe work procedures for kitchen workers and provides information on how to use and store knives properly to prevent cuts.

This risk awareness video shows common hazards chefs, cooks, and kitchen staff should be aware of when using knives, and provides informa
tion on how to use a knife safely.

Watch as chefs in B.C. share their first-hand experiences in this educational video, which can be a useful tool for health and safety training in kitchens on basic knife safety.

What are 15 knife safety tips?

1. Before working with a knife, set up your workstation.
2. Use a clean, damp cloth to secure your cutting board on the counter.
3. Store knives in a proper knife rack, block, or knife bag.
4. When storing knives in a knife bag, use knife guards.
5. Hold the knife with your dominant hand. With the other hand, hold the item tightly, curling your fingers inward.
6. Cut away from your body when trimming or deboning.
7. Put the knife down when talking.
8. Don't use a knife unless you can focus on the task.
9. Place knives with the blade facing away from you.
10. If you have to carry a knife, hold it close to your side with the blade facing down.
11. Announce when you're moving with a knife.
12. Clean knives after using them.
13. Don't put knives in the dishwasher.
14. Wear cut-resistant gloves whenever you can.
15. Don't use a knife as a substitute for another tool.
