This skip counting by 7s song gives children an introduction to skip counting and to their 7 times tables. Skip counting helps kids come to grips with the concept of multiplication and kickstarts the process of memorization of, in this case, their 7 times tables.
This counting video is suitable for children of all ages but is especially aimed at children in in third grade through fifth grade. The beat starts slowly as we count by 7 to 70 and it then gets faster and faster. This is done to increase children's number familiarity and help them develop an instant recall of the numbers involved in skip counting by seven.
The seven times table is considered one of the most difficult to learn. This song aims to give your child a pleasant introduction to multiplying by seven and assist in them memorizing the table.
If you are a little bit rusty on the seven times table yourself, then why not try to re-learn it at the same time as your child does. Lead by example with good humor and enthusiasm and remind your child that they probably already know most of this multiplication table if they know the twos through sixes and the tens.
The images presented change with each verse of the song:
- The first time we count by 7 to 70 and each numeral comes on screen as it is said.
- Next, the written words for each number appear, ie seven, fourteen, twenty-one, twenty-eight, thirty-five, forty-two, forty-nine, fifty-six, sixty-three and seventy. Some children struggle with numbers as words so the sooner they become familiar with the words and their spelling, the better -- especially given that many mathematical problems are presented as number sentences.
