Hi, my name's Michelle Dunn. And I'm a lecturer in robotics and mechatronics and biomedical engineering at Swinburne University of Technology.
Have you ever wondered about what goes on inside the mind of a robot? Or why they do what they do? Or why we build them in the first place?
Robots have many purposes. They're used in factories to help us build things. They're used in our homes to carry out tedious tasks. They're used to entertain us in the form of toys. And we even use the carry out dangerous tasks in hazardous environments.
In this course, we're going to delve into the design and development of simple mobile robotic systems.
Firstly, we'll be answering the question, what is a robot? What is a mobile robot? And what's inside of our robot?
Then we'll look specifically at what makes a mobile robot move. And we'll look at some examples of the different methods that robots use to move around.
Humans have eyes, ears, and touch to help them sense what's going on around them. So we'll look at robotic sensing. How do robots sense their environment?
Finally, we'll be looking at the information that we have from the senses to make decisions about how our robots should move.
Throughout this course, we're actually going to take what we've learned and build a robot that can operate in an autonomous fashion. Making robots is really interesting, it's also fun. So enrol now and join me in learning all about mobile robots.
