This is a short excerpt from Episode 4 ("Faith in Numbers) of the BBC documentary series "Connections," edited by James Burke, in which he discusses how water was adapted as a versatile energy source during the Middle Ages in Europe.  I have uploaded it as an illustration for my class on the history of environmental change, in the context of how demand for energy has evolved over the course of human history.
