Guadalupe River State Park, near San Antonio, Texas

Guadalupe River State Park is in Spring Branch, just 30 miles from San Antonio, and it is even closer to the small town of Boerne where you can sample the area's German heritage.

As you come into the park, it's about a mile and a half to the first camping loop.  There is a sign as you enter that first loop telling you that there are to be no RVs over 20' long.  That loop had lots of Casitas, some other very small travel trailers, and tents.

The next loop is Turkey Sink where we stayed.  These are 50 amp sites.  They are spacious sites with lots of foliage.  Also there are several overflow parking lots in this loop.

The third camping loop is for walk in sites.  They are beautiful sites.  The parking lot is very near the sites.

The restrooms in the 50 amp sites have been remodeled not that long ago.  They are pristine and modern.  During the week in the off season, only two of the showers are open.

Everyday we were at Guadalupe River State Park, we got some rain.  Texas has been in a horrible drought, so you won't hear us complaining about the rain.  We were there the first full week in November and we wore shorts and t-shirts during the first couple of days there.

This park has 13 miles of trails, but the true draw for Guadalupe River State Park is the river.  You can fish, tube, canoe, kayak, and swim.  Even in the first week in November, kids were swimming in the river.

This is a park where the day use area is used.  People come to the park for the water and to hike or ride horses.  Although it doesn't have equestrian sites, some of the trails are open to horses.

If you plan on visiting the park in the summer, be sure to make reservations.  This is an extremely popular park because of the river, and it is often full in the summer.
