Recreating Ancient Egyptian Music

This presentation features "Hymn to Horus" - track 8 from my 2010 album, "Apollo's Lyre":

This album features new compositions for the ancient lyre, in an attempt to evoke the music of ancient Greece, Israel and Egypt. "Hymn to Horus" was my arrangement for solo lyre, of an actual traditional Egyptian folk song, "My Heart was Burnt by Love" - my intention being that the original melody is magically metamophsed by the timbre of my lyre into a time machine, capable of transporting the listener back to the sacred reverie of the ancient Egyptian gods!

Horus was the Falcon-Headed Protector Deity of Ancient Egypt. The iconic  'Eye of Horus' was an ancient Egyptian symbol of
protection, royal power, and good health. The iconography of Horus is commonly illustrated in ancient Egyptian art and scultpure in his role of protecting the pharaoh.

An excerpt of track 3 of "Apollo's Lyre"; "Hymn to Zeus", has been adapted by the Grammy award winning composer, Rufus Wainwright and will be featured in 2 scenes of his ancient Roman-themed second opera, "Hadrian":
