Cross Product (Introduction)

This Calculus 3 video gives an introduction to the cross product of two vectors. We explain why the cross product of two vectors gives us an orthogonal vector in 3D space, and how the cross product is orthogonal to the plane containing the original two vectors. We show how the order of the cross product obeys the right-hand rule, and how to use the idea of a determinant to calculate the cross product of two vectors. Finally, we work two examples that include the same two vectors. One example, we work as u cross v, and the other we work as v cross u.
