Your Pilot Career and Scope Clauses

2023 Update: FedEx Express Pilots, important message for you folks. Art Luby is NOT your friend. In fact, he isn't even your lawyer. This is very important to understand. He is ALPA's lawyer and you may have situations where your pilot group's interests and ALPA nationals are not aligned. In those cases he will seem as if he is your lawyer, but you have to keep in mind that he is NOT. I know he is a smooth talker, I was there for the road shows when he convinced the DHL Airways pilots (later called Astar) to give up scope in exchange for job protection covenants. All those pilots lost their jobs and it turns out when the airline shuts down, those covenants are worth nothing. On the other hand, if you have a scope clause they can't shut down just the airline and keep going with ACMI. With "covenants" they can. There is no substitute for scope.
