One of the most helpful models for integrators has been the General Documents model, which uses neural modeling to extract key-value pairs for structured forms. So rather than zone OCR/ICR individual fields with tight spaces, handwriting, horizontal and vertical lines that interfere with zone based capture approaches, using Azure's ability to separate keys from values makes it the best approach for consistent data extraction. Azure supports both text and handwriting and 120+ languages without needing to specify. As of Nov 2023, General Document is now deprecated. The Layout model now has an analyze option for Key-value pair extraction, providing the exact same functionality.

The new query capability extends the key-value pair extraction with custom key/label searching. This allows integrators control should Azure misread a label, allowing the target of specific field content.
