Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Language Translation: a Better Solution Using Power Query.

Welcome to another video from MrExcel! In this video, we're going to revisit a topic from 12 years ago - can Excel translate languages? Back then, it was a brand new feature in Excel 2007, but it only allowed for translation of one cell at a time and only offered 20 languages. I was hopeful that it would improve over time, and it has...sort of.

In this video, we'll take a look at the Translate feature in Excel and see how it has evolved. We'll select a bunch of phrases and use the Translate panel to convert them to a different language. And the good news is, there are now a lot more than 20 languages to choose from! However, there are still some limitations and annoyances that we'll address.

One of the biggest issues with the Translate feature is that it doesn't allow for easy copying and pasting of the translated data. When you right-click and select "Select All", it doesn't actually select all of the data. And when you do manage to select everything and copy it, pasting it back into multiple cells is a slow and tedious process. It seems like there should be a better way to do this, right?

Well, thankfully, there is! In this video, we'll also explore a solution from Smozgur at the MrExcel message board. They have come up with a clever way to use Power Query and the Google translation API to easily translate data from one language to another. We'll walk through the steps and show you how to use this method to quickly translate a large amount of data.

But that's not all! In addition to discussing the Translate feature and the Power Query solution, we'll also take a moment to highlight some exciting new books that have been released this summer. From MrExcel 2022 to Financial Modeling in Power BI, there are some great resources available for Excel and Power BI users. And we'll even show you how to order these books from our website.

So, can Excel translate languages? The answer is yes, but it may not be as easy as we would like. However, with the help of Power Query and the Google translation API, we can find a more efficient solution. And as always, thank you for watching and be sure to check out our other videos for more Excel tips and tricks. See you next time!

Can Excel translate languages?
Part 1:
There is a built-in Translation tool on the Review tab in Excel. It shows the answers in a task pane, but it does a bad job of getting those answers back to the Excel grid.

Five new books were published this summer. Check them out at: https://www.mrexcel.com/products/

Part 2: You can use a small bit of Power Query code from Smozgur at MrExcel to solve the problem. Get that code from: https://www.mrexcel.com/board/excel-a...
