Metal detecting the large gold deposits buried on the banks of the river bends!!

Over the past few years I've done a lot of gold sniping extracting gold nuggets from the cracks and crevices of the  rivers bedrock, it's always been my favourite way to search for gold.
One thing I've neglected however is the the gold deposits that are buried in the banks of the rivers or just under the water line to shallow to access with a mask and snorkel.
On my last adventure I sniped the upper reaches of a river worked by the old timers over 180 years ago.  The effort getting into the area was brutal especially this time of year when the weather is much much  cooler.
 The lower reaches of the river are much more accessible and prospectors have done very well in more recent times.  My plan is to spend a few days in the lower reaches of the river camped up using my metal detectors to see if I can find some of that gold still hiding in the banks of the rivers bend.
