I know too well the struggles a poet goes through when wrestling with the blank page, and the blank mind. Sometimes it can take a whole week before a decent line or even an idea comes to mind; that’s why I’ve compiled this list of 5 places you can find inspiration for your poetry.

Before we begin, I’d like to quickly tell you about a free PDF I’m giving away! I’ve written down my process of how to becoming a working poet into a simple and easy to follow PDF. All you have to do is hit the link in my description and follow the steps!

Okay, tip 1! In the work of others! I’ve put this first, because I really hope that this is an easy tip which anyone that’s been working in the literary world should already be doing. It’s so important! Run to the local bookshop, or jump on amazon and buy at least one big collection of poetry for you to draw inspiration from. recommendations!

TIP 2! NATURE! Its not necessarily that nature inspires me to write about well, nature. It’s that it relaxes me, intrigues me, it helps me escape other things that may be on my mind and puts me into a tranquil state of mind so that when I do get back to my desk, I’m reset, in awe, or just generally inspired. Anyone that has seen some of my other videos, or certainly folks that follow me on instagram will know just how much I love being amongst nature, and being out in vast fields or under trees... and usually I get a poem or two out of that experience before even getting back to a table.

Tip 3, Historical Places. Again, this is personal to me. Not everybody likes history, or going out to walk around old buildings. I however, love it. History is another interest of mine, and learning about other people and their stories is what makes me a story teller myself. This may not necessarily help you with creativity, but it is one of the things that helps me find inspiration in people, and therefore motivates me to push myself past any writing blocks. Of course, if the place you’re visiting invokes something inside, you can always go and find a quiet corner and write a poem about the place you’re in, or the people it relates to.

Tip 4. Literary Places of Significance. Luckily London and the UK is filled with these. Most recently I was able to visit Charles Dickens’ old house in London, but I’ve also been able to go all over retracing the footsteps of Tolkien, having visited his resting place, his old home, his university and even places he visited and inspired him in his writing of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I’ve also done the same for Shakespeare.

Tip 5. I guess there’s a fine line in how to find motivation and finding inspiration. Taking a day out to watch documentaries about great poets, writers and artists in general, always fills my creative tank with inspiration and motivation that can last me for months.

So, next time you hit a creative block and can’t get anything onto the page, or you just feel like you can’t be bothered and there’s nothing you can do to move passed your self doubts, don’t panic!

My name is Adam Gary and I’m a writer and poet. I have numerous collections you can find across the internet, but I guess amazon is probably the easiest to buy from unless you want a signed copy which you can get from my official website store, I also sell jumpers like this and blablabla. If you liked this video hit subscribe and turn on notifications as I post videos every Tuesday. Also follow me on Tik Tok and instagram if you wanna be my friend!

I’ll see you next week beautiful people!
