Hi! Everyone! Today we're going to show you how to make a sukiyaki-style dish which is a classic cuisine from Japan: Simmered Beef and Tofu(Niku-Dofu).

肉豆腐 (にくどうふ) , pronounced as “Niku dofu”, is a sukiyaki taste dish, which is very delicious with rice. It’s simmered with a lot of tofu and beef, the tofu and vegetables have absorbed the savory beef broth. Delicious!

It's easy to make with only a few ingredients, and takes about 20 minutes to cook. It is kind of a quick and easy version of sukiyaki. Just give it a try. :)

Niku dofu Recipe
☞  Yields: 4

✎ Ingredients
onion 1
leek / green onion 1
shiitake mushrooms 4~5
a pack of momen tofu
thinly sliced beef 250g

For marinade
sake 1.5 tablespoon
soy sauce 1 tablespoon

For the seasoned broth
water 150g
mirin 25g
sake 20g
soy sauce 55g
sugar 45g

1. Remove tofu's excess moisture. Put something heavy on top and leave it for at least 20 minutes.
2. Cut the beef into bite size pieces, and add soy sauce and sake. Let marinate for at least 10 minutes.
3. Mix the seasoned broth, add water, sugar, mirin, sake, soy sauce and mix well.
4. Cut the scallion into 4cm diagonal slices. Discard the stems of mushrooms and slice into bite size. Cut the onion into 2.5 cm wedges.
5. Cut the tofu into 4 equal portions.
6. Heat oil in a pot over medium heat, fry the scallion for minutes until golden.
7. Pour the seasoned broth. Once the broth is simmering, add the beef , spoon out the beef when the color changes to brown.
8. Put the tofu into the pot, add the mushrooms and onion, once boiling, cover with a lid and turn to low heat and cook for 15 minutes.
9. Add the beef back to the pan and cook for two more minutes.
10. You can enjoy it immediately, or store overnight to eat, the flavor will be very better. It can be stored in the fridge for 3 days.
