The Standing Committee on Defence Friday cleared the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control & Discipline) Bill, 2023, without any changes. It seeks to allow a commander-in-chief of an inter-services organisation to exercise disciplinary powers over personnel of any service serving under it. The Bill is important against the larger backdrop of India’s move towards integrated theatre commands, a key military reform. In Ep 1276 of Cut The Clutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta discusses the Bill, how the idea of integrated theatre commands first took root, and why they matter.
