How To Turn Off iMessage On iPhone

In this quick tech how to video, I’m going to show you how to turn off iMessage on an iPhone.

There may be a few reasons that you would want to do this. First, if you’re having issues receiving text messages on your iPhone, there might be an issue with your data signal or service. iMessages are received differently, so by turning it off, you’ll receive the text as a normal text.

That brings up the next point. If you have a limited data plan, then by turning off iMessage you would be worrying about data overages, since text is normally unlimited.

Also, if you want to switch to Android, iMessage only works with Apple. So by turning off iMessage and using normal texting, you won’t have an issue losing anything.

To turn off iMessage, open the Settings app.

Next, scroll down and choose Messages.

Here towards the top, you’ll see iMessage. To turn it off, just hit the slider to the right to disable it. Now when you send a text message, it will be sent as a text and not an iMessage.

To make sure that it’s turned off, you can confirm by sending someone who has an iPhone a text. iMessage texts are blue, and when it’s turned off, a normal text shows up as green.

And that’s how you turn off iMessage on an iPhone.
