This trail first takes hikers to the turquoise waters of Peyto Lake on a paved boardwalk, and then on a more challenging adventure to hike up to Bow Summit by taking the path beyond Peyto Lake Lookout. Past the lake, you will mostly leave the tour groups behind at the main viewpoint and continue along the route by staying to the left and by not following the trail that goes down to your right. Pretty much any way up leads to a similar place, but heading straight follows this verified route along the meadow - which is the best for a holistic alpine experience. You will see some short steep climbs ahead and then shortly after when you will reach a nice flat rocky patch that will give you amazing lake views. Once at the top of this rocky table, head left and you will see the trail that continues through a little meadow before joining up with the less steep, better defined alternative trail. For the absolute best lake views, you can scramble up the grassy hill on the right at this point, creating a 30 minute detour in total. There's some rock cairns at the top on the lake side of this mound to help identify this area. Then, come back down the grassy side as the part nearest the lake is really shaley and the next bit along has big drops. Back down on the trail, where the paths meet, you continue round the back of this peak and cross a beautiful stream. This hike is also a great option in winter, especially on a beautiful snowy, warm day to snowshoe Bow Summit. It will be best completed after some fresh snow overnight so the trail is soft, but it can be hard to navigate, so downloading the offline maps is helpful. The winter experience offers great views up and down the valley after clearing the trees, and snowshoes are absolutely a must. During the winter this trail crosses significant avalanche terrain. Travel in avalanche terrain requires specific avalanche training and equipment.
