In the past, I've build a few Backfire builds that were fun, but I always felt it lacked some stuff because I had to go all in on Hazard protection leaving very little room for other stuff. I could squeeze in some sustain, but couldn't get much handling or I could get some handling, but lose out on sustain.
Ninjabike Messenger Bag helps with this issue for me a bit and the recent Cavalier Gear Set that provides a large chunk of Hazard Protection. Nothing too fancy, just brands and gear that provide hazard protection and then brand and gear that provides handling and self heals. Ceska, Yahhl, and Cavalier (plus SHD watch bo us and 4 haz pro attributes) provide the 100% hazard protection and Hotshot and Belstone provide 30% weapon handling and 1% armor regen and 10% armor on kill for sustain.
I like the weapon handling from Hotshot to tighten the spread of the SMG accuracy and lower it's reload time. Belstone provides me heals so I dont' really need to use a skill or be locked into Gunner. This opens my skills up to be Riot Foam, a personal favorite, and Crusader Shield. Decided to use Technician just to get extra damage on enemy skills and the extra skill tier to boost the Riot Foam effectiveness.
Still able to get to 59% Crit Chance on gear while Backfire makes up the Crit Damage.
100% Hazard Protection isn't super effective, but it's nice to be able to run through fire, not worry about getting blinded or disrupted. An Elite Bomber Rusher's fire won't kill me is also a plus.
