The myoglobin blood test measures the level of the protein myoglobin in the blood.

Myoglobin can also be measured with a urine test.

Myoglobin is a protein that’s typically found in heart and skeletal muscle tissues.

The only time that myoglobin is found in the bloodstream is when injury to a muscle has occurred.

In particular, injury to the heart muscle results in the release of myoglobin

When and why The test is performed

It may be ordered if u are having a heart attack

It may also be ordered if you’re experiencing symptoms of severe damage to your muscles

Symptoms of muscle injury or damage include:

Muscle pain.
Dark-colored urine.
Fever.
Fatigue.
Nausea and vomiting.
Abdominal pain.

But, note here one thing...The serum myoglobin test has been replaced by the serum troponin level test.

Normal Results
The normal range is 25 to 72 ng/mL

What Abnormal Results Mean

An increased level of myoglobin may be due to:

Heart attack

Malignant hyperthermia (but this one isvery rare)

muscular dystrophy ...that is Disorder that causes muscle weakness and loss of muscle tissue

rhabdomyolysis... that is...
Breakdown of muscle tissue that leads to the release of muscle fiber contents into the blood

Myositis or....
Skeletal muscle inflammation

Skeletal muscle ischemia that is oxygen deficiency

Skeletal muscle trauma
