Want a nice warm tile floor, here is how, Time lapse video. Strata Heat, by Laticrete, is a floor warming systemis a three component system consisting of the Strata heat Mat, the cable system and the thermostat, it comes in both 120, and 240 volt. The Strata Mat for the heat wire is configured in such a way that the heat wire can be easily inserted and routed through the mat to heat the desired areas, in this case the whole floor was heated, but can also be used to heat different zones. The strata mat is installed the same way as the regular uncoupling membrane, and serves the same function with the added capability of accepting the heat wire. One important difference is that a larger trowel is used to spread the thinset. Once the mat has been installed, the wire can be routed into the mat. The heating cable can be inserted into the mat in three different configurations, an alternating 2-3 puck which gives the maximum heat output, which can be used as a primary heat source. 3-3 puck which can also serve as primary heat if the Thermal pack is mixed into the thinset mortar used to set the tile, and finally a 4-4 puck configuration. the wire can be no closer that 3" from the wall, and 8” from a heat source, (Hot air vent, baseboard heat, etc.). The cable and probes must be tested with the appropriate meters before they are installed, after they have been placed in the mat, and after the tile has been installed to retain the warranty. All the directions are included with the system.
