For the second straight season, Buddy-Ball came to town on opening day. Let the games begin! With fake punts, onside kicks and the occasional illegal play (oh, Buddy!) there was never a dull moment with the lovable grumpy coach Ryan. With all that going on, plus Randall Cunningham’s wily scrambling and Reggie White’s pick-pocket fumble return TD, the Redskins sure had their hands full with the Iggles on this highly entertaining opening day. Still, the Redskins prevailed in a game that was eerily foreshadowing of events to come. Both Jay Schroeder and George Rogers would start, but not finish, the game, with Doug Williams stepping in and stepping up brilliantly to lead the team to victory (that sounds familiar, eh?). The real hero of this day was punter Steve Cox. Pressed into place-kicking duties when kicker Jess Atkins went down with a career-ending ankle injury in the first quarter, Cox converted three extra points and clutch 40-yard 4th quarter field goal – Bravo, sir! John Madden and Verne Lundquist (subbing in for the beloved Pat Summerall) join us for all the opening day festivities. Remastered from VHS to 1080p(ish) digital with fresh – never frozen – 100% American ground beef. Dig in! BECOME A RETROSKINS CONTRIBUTOR! -- Do you have old 'Skins VHS or digital game recordings?
