In this first video of our new Artists Book House Tutorials series, artist and papermaker Andrea Peterson teaches you how to make a simple Japanese Sugeta style mold and deckle for hand paper making. Then she demonstrates how to use the Sugeta to pull western style sheets.

(1) Bamboo Brush Holder
(8) Stretcher Bars to make 2 frames - The assembled frame should be approx. 1 inch wider and taller than the Bamboo Brush Mat.
Wood Glue or another type of adhesive
(1) Roll of Weather Stripping - minimum 1/4 inch thick and 1/2 wide
(1) Tube of 2 Part Epoxy adhesive
(1) Piece of No-See-Em Screening - a few inches larger than the Bamboo Brush Holder (black is recommended)
(1) Needle and thick / durable sewing thread (Coat or Upholstery thread is good)

About Andrea Peterson
Andrea is an internationally exhibiting artist and educator. Her work is multifaceted exploring all types of paper fibers and processes and includes paper works, prints, artist books, and environmental installation pieces. She combines paper arts, printmaking and book arts to make works that address human relationship to the environment.She received her BFA at School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA in printmaking from U of MN in Minneapolis. She has lectured and taught extensively including at Ox-Bow, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Sciola de Graphica, Venice, Italy, Paper Museum Steyermeuhl, Austria, Syracuse University and Indiana University. You can find her work in several private and corporate collections.She currently teaches in the Fiber and Material Studies Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
